On March 26, 1990, Elizabeth Mackintosh was strangled and stabbed in a bathroom in the chapel of Covenant Theological Seminary, the denominational seminary for the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA).
It was a brutal killing that shocked the small seminary and the town of Creve Coeur, Missouri. Who would kill her? Was it a fellow student, or someone from the outside?
In True Believer: The Unsolved Murder of Elizabeth Mackintosh, co-producers TJ Ingrassia and Ruth Serven Smith examine the unsolved murder and the hold that the stories and secrets surrounding it still have on St. Louis and Covenant students and graduates.
In her diary, Elizabeth wrote, in notes from a sermon at church, that she wanted to be a “true believer.”
For decades, a small group of people have shared stories and rumors about the death of Elizabeth Mackintosh. And for years, multiple suspects have had this murder hanging over them. Can untangling the stories lead to justice for Elizabeth and someone wrongfully accused? TJ and Ruth review police investigative files and interview people who knew Elizabeth and worked on the case.
